Estudio de la Demanda Oftalmológica Urgente en una Provincia Española (Castellón)

Resumen

Objetivo: Conocer de manera actualizada las características de la patología oftalmológica urgente en una provincia española (Castellón). Métodos: Estudio epidemiológico transversal sobre 2224 episodios de urgencias atendidos durante el año 2017 en el Hospital Provincial de Castellón y en el Hospital General de Castellón. Se evaluaron diversas variables: edad, sexo, mes, día de la semana, motivo de consulta, tiempo de evolución de los síntomas, diagnóstico, y tratamiento. Resultados: La media de edad de los pacientes fue de 53,85 (±21,912) años. La distribución por sexos supuso 1178 mujeres (53%) y 1046 hombres (47%), sin encontrarse diferencias estadísticamente significativas. El 17,6% carecían de diagnóstico en el informe de alta, el grupo diagnóstico más frecuente fue el de queratitis el 16,9% de los casos, seguido de trastornos de la conjuntiva, apareciendo en el 16,7% de los casos. El resto de los grupos diagnósticos completaron el 50% restante. Conclusiones: El paciente que acudió con más frecuencia a los servicios de urgencia en la provincia de Castellón consistió en una mujer adulta de entre 30 y 70 años con alteraciones de la superficie ocular (ya sea la córnea o la conjuntiva). La actualización del conocimiento epidemiológico permite adecuar los recursos existentes a la demanda poblacional.
